Run N’ Fly is a collective of smooth jazz, funk and R&B, along the lines of other collectives like Steely Dan and Incognito. The music and arrangements in the album, which bears the name of the group, were by producer, guitarist and jazz star Sandro Albert. Manu wrote all the lyrics, in English, about strong female role models who have driven and defined pop culture .
The catchy, well-balanced tracks composed by Albert, together with Manu’s lyrics, make the album a singular and powerful homage to some of our biggest and most beautiful female icons. Thus, Pam pays homage to the muse of Blaxploitation films, Pam Grier; Raquel is a tribute to Hollywood sex symbol Raquel Welch; Lynda Carter, the eternal Wonder Woman, is the star in Lynda; Stella is a reference to the classic Stella by Starlight, as well as Stella Maris, Dorival Caymmi’s wife; while in Roberta, Lafer once more pays homage to Bobbie Gentry, having already dedicated Somebody Like Me to her. Together with the other six tracks, they make up a landscape that honors the empowerment of women. The album features the participation of industry veterans such as legendary drummer Omar Hakim, percussionist Bashiri Johnson, bassist Derrick Murdock and vocalists Darryl Tookes, Cindy Mizelle and Angela Clemmons.
